Education
At the
K-12 education level, GIS helps students learn the
importance of geography in their world, and allows
them to engage in studies that require, and promote,
critical thinking and integrated learning. As these
students move on to University, they are prepared to
use one of the hottest new research tools in
academia - GIS technology. Universities use this
technology to provide the workers and researchers of
tomorrow with a better understanding of the spatial
relationships in the world around them.
For school boards, whose daily operations mirror
those of a small municipality, GIS provides a means
for geographic data creation, management,
integration, and analysis. GIS addresses the
fundamental needs of school boards for facilities
management, school bus routing, and school planning.
Using GIS school boards can create and manage of a
centralized database of schools and related
information, such as students, staff, and
facilities, which can be accessed by all levels of
users.
