Overview

This two-day ERDAS course builds upon the knowledge gained in the IMAGINE Fundamentals course to Provide a more extensive foundation in image processing and GIS. Additional concepts of spatial modeling, image classification, radar image processing and basic EML programming are presented. This course will be run on version 8.7 of the software.

Audience

Users with basic knowledge in image processing.

Goals

  • Navigate around the IMAGINE Professional interface

  • Create training signatures for a supervised classification

  • Evaluate the training signatures prior to classification

  • Apply a classification decision rule to the training data

  • Create basic Spatial Models to manipulate vector and raster datasets

  • Perform GIS analysis with the Spatial Model

  • Generate Contour, Slope and Aspect files from DEM's

  • Produce a Shaded Relief and Painted Relief image from elevation data 

  • Create and use a 'Snail Trail' in analysis

  • Count objects and save information using the Feature Counter Tool

  • Convert X,Y ASCII files to ArcInfo Point Vector Layers

  • Improve decision making by using the ERDAS IMAGINE Knowledge Classifier

  • Use and integrate radar data into a project

Topics

IMAGINE software: Navigate around the IMAGINE Professional interface; Perform simple raster GIS functions; Merge spatially different data.

Supervised Classification: Create training signatures in a supervised manner; Evaluate the training signatures prior to classification.

Knowledge Engineer: Apply a land cover classification decision rule to the training data.

Knowledge Classifier: Introduce effective decision making for Knowledge Classifier.

Raster GIS processing: Import digital data into IMAGINE Essentials.

Spatial Modeling: Generate a range of raster and vector spatial models; Perform a series of GIS analyses on the land cover classification.

Radar Image Processing: Apply basic processing techniques to radar data. Basic EML: Edit an EML to customize the IMAGINE Professional interface.

IMAGINE EXPERT CLASSIFIER: Improve land cover classification using EXPERT CLASSIFIER; Integrate spatial models into EXPERT CLASSIFIER.

Prerequisites

  • Completion of the Fundamentals of ERDAS IMAGINE course.
